Biomedical research areas

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has a long history in doing research in biomedical sciences. Originally focused on radiation effects and cancer research, we are now focused on the fundamental science needed to support our national security program in biological and chemical weapon defense.

To meet our programmatic needs we focus on three main research areas:

  • Rapid detection and characterization
  • Rapid development and deployment of medical countermeasures
  • Understanding and predicting human response
