Research Interests

Enrica Balboni studied earth science at the Università degli studi di Ferrara and the University of Notre Dame. During this time, she worked as a graduate intern at the Getty Conservation Institute and was awarded both a Bayer Predoctoral Research Fellowship from the Center for Environmental Science & Technology at the University of Notre Dame and a student research grant from the Mineralogical Society of America. She currently works as a postdoc in the Environmental Radiochemistry group and at the Glenn T. Seaborg Institute at LLNL.

Balboni’s research interests include actinide-mineral interactions, actinides crystal chemistry, environmental transport and behavior of f-elements, microscopy, mass spectrometry, x-ray diffraction, and nuclear forensics. In addition to exploring these research interests through her work at LLNL, she has also spent time mentoring other employees, work which earned her an outstanding mentor award in 2017.
