Tomi Akindele is a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Rare Event Detection Group. She received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018 and her BS from Texas A&M University in 2013; both in nuclear engineering. Akindele’s research interests include the application of basic physics for nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards applications. Her current research involves simulations and small scale experimentation to inform the performance of kilo-ton detectors filled with WbLS. Additionally, she was involved with construction of the hardware and analysis framework for the WATCHMAN photomultiplier tubes, and simulations on the muon flux and rate to inform the requirements for the WATCHMAN Veto. In the past, her research included decay measurement of short-lived actinides at LLNL, evaluations of the expected neutron rates in the presence and absence of fissile material to support the New START treaty while at Sandia National Laboratories, analysis of signatures from chemical and nuclear incidents while at the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the development of a diagnostic tool to determine the degradation of reactivity loss in control rods at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.
