Background

Joel joined LLNL in 2019 as a Staff Scientist. His current research includes modeling microstructure evolution in metal alloys during laser-based additive manufacturing and in solid oxide electrolysis cells during water splitting. Joel was a Postdoctoral Fellow / Researcher at the University of Pennsylvania (2016–2018), Princeton University (2013–2016), and McMaster University / University of British Columbia (2012–2013). He has a PhD in Physics from McGill University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University.
